Cosmetology I

CTE TEKS - Implemented 2017-2018, adopted in 2015

Cosmetology I course scope and sequence within the Human Services Career Cluster® summarizes the content to be taught, and one possible order for teaching the units of instruction. A brief description of each unit and the corresponding TEKS are included. This scope and sequence may be adapted or adopted by the local education agency.

Based on the House Bill 5 Foundation High School Program, the Cosmetologist program of study within the Human Services Career Cluster® provides helpful information, including the core courses and career-related electives in high school that will help prepare students for their career goals. This document is designed for students, but can also be used by administrators, counselors, teachers, business and industry representatives, and parents.

In this lesson, students will develop an awareness of career opportunities related to the course Cosmetology I.

In this lesson, students will learn how to identify specific nail disorders and nail diseases. Students will also learn and correctly use the appropriate definitions and terminology as well as research the causes, signs or symptoms, and treatment of the nail diseases or disorders.

In this lesson, students will apply health and safety policies and procedures.

In this lesson, students will develop an awareness of career opportunities related to the course Cosmetology I.

Performing 0° haircuts is like this. They must be straight to look right. Today you will learn how to perform a 0° haircut so that it will be straight across in the back and look fabulous.
