Investigating Careers

CTE TEKS - Implemented 2017-2018, adopted in 2015

Investigating Careers course scope and sequence within the career Career Cluster® summarizes the content to be taught, and one possible order for teaching the units of instruction. A brief description of each unit and the corresponding TEKS are included. This scope and sequence may be adapted or adopted by the local education agency.

Based on the House Bill 5 Foundation High School Program, the Program of Studies within the 16 career clusters provide helpful information, including the core courses and career-related electives in high school that will help prepare students for their career goals. These documents are designed for students, but can also be used by administrators, counselors, teachers, business and industry representatives, and parents.

In this lesson, students will identify and explore career opportunities within the Human Resources pathway such as Corporate Trainer, Recruiter, Benefits Specialist, and HR Generalist.

In this lesson, students explore careers related to marketing education. Students will research marketing strategies and the impact of media and advertising on purchasing decisions.

In this lesson, students will align personal interests and skills into career opportunities within the Government and Public Administration Career Cluster.

In this lesson, students will perform in-depth research on careers, and produce several products using O*NET and other internet options.

In this lesson, students will explore career opportunities within the STEM Career Cluster.
 

This lesson exposes students to career opportunities in Manufacturing and a hands-on activity using a pattern layout to create a model.

In this lesson, students will identify the various career opportunities and pathways within one or more career clusters. Students will also research and explore careers of personal interest, including academic, certification, and technical skill requirements.

In this lesson, students will practice job interview skills, discuss and recognize the do’s and don’ts, and participate in a mock interview.

In this lesson, students will describe appropriate appearance for an interview.

In this lesson, students will develop effective leadership skills through participation in activities such as career and technical student organizations.

In this lesson, students will identify the steps in searching for jobs, complete a job application, and understand the elements of interviewing.

In this lesson, students will develop a resume, write business correspondence, complete a sample job application, and explain the protocol for selecting and using appropriate references for job applications.
