Principles of Information Technology

CTE TEKS - Implemented 2017-2018, adopted in 2015

Principles of Information Technology course scope and sequence within the Information Technology Career Cluster® summarizes the content to be taught, and one possible order for teaching the units of instruction. A brief description of each unit and the corresponding TEKS are included. This scope and sequence may be adapted or adopted by the local education agency.

Based on the House Bill 5 Foundation High School Program, the Program of Studies within the Information Technology Career Cluster provide helpful information, including the core courses and career-related electives in high school that will help prepare students for their career goals. These documents are designed for students, but can also be used by administrators, counselors, teachers, business and industry representatives, and parents.

This lesson explores the importance of and the components of resumes. Students will evaluate their existing resumes and create a new personal resume.

This lesson focuses on IT employment opportunities. Students will research the different types of IT careers and explore their own personal qualities that qualify them for employment in IT.

In this lesson, students will be introduced to the concept of copyright. Students will have the opportunity to create a presentation to apply the concepts of copyright and intellectual property rights.

This lesson introduces students to the basics of the internet. Students will have the opportunity to apply the skills they learn to use specific searches to find information. 

This lesson introduces students to database software. Students will have the opportunity to practice in pre-built database templates, as well as create their own home inventory database. 

This lesson introduces students to the concept of  using text effects.  Students will have the opportunity to practice using various text effects from fonts, colors, size, text art, etc. 

This lesson is an introduction to basic webpage design. Students will create a webpage planner and apply design principles to design a personal web page.

In this lesson, students will create "A Day in the Life of," presentation of an IT professional. Students will research, write, use graphics, and deliver an oral presentation of their product.
